Ready to Reign?
God created us to rule - not for our selfish purposes, but
to help Him rule the world for his glory.
Consider God’s instructions to the first humans:
Then God said, "Let us make man in our image, in our likeness, and
let them rule over the fish of the
sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock, over all the earth, and over
all the creatures that move along the ground."
Genesis 1:26
Mankind was to “rule” over all the animals and over all the
earth. God created us to reign with Him.
Sin entered the earth and we became bad rulers. We killed each other, abused one another, and
were possible tyrannically ruled over others for our glory, not His.
But for those of us who have trusted in Christ and made him
Lord over our life, we get to somewhat regain that original purpose. We lead churches, small groups, ministries,
and even Sunday school to expand God’s kingdom and help Him rule the earth
(albeit imperfectly for now).
But the day is coming when our job as rulers will be
restored in a perfect kingdom.
When Jesus gave the parable of the talents, notice what he
said to the servants who had worked hard for His kingdom here on earth and
multiplied what God had given them:
"His master replied, 'Well done, good and faithful servant! You
have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master's happiness!'
Matthew 25:21
In heaven, not only will we be in a happy place, we will be “in
charge of many things”. God’s
original purpose for us – to help Him rule the world – will be fulfilled in
us.
Jesus promised us – His children who serve Him faithfully
here on earth:
To him who overcomes, I will give the right to sit with me on my throne, just as I overcame and sat down with my
Father on his throne.
Revelation 3:21
