How is your Greek Mythology? Do you know who Mentor was? In Greek mythology, Mentor was a friend of Odysseus who placed Mentor in charge of his son Telemachus when Odysseus left for the Trojan War. When he returned from the war he found that his boy had grown up to be a man, thanks to his friend Mentor. We use the word “mentor” today to mean a father-like teacher or a wise and trusted counselor. In the early church we could see this type of relationship between Paul and Timothy. Paul wrote: But you know that Timothy has proved himself, because as a son with his father he has served with me in the work of the gospel. Philippians 2:22 Pastor Johnny Hunt encourages pastors and Christian leaders to look for men to mentor.
