Enemies within the Family

What do you do when your enemies live in your own house? 

“Don’t imagine that I came to bring peace to the earth! I came not to bring peace, but a sword. ‘I have come to set a man against his father, a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law. Your enemies will be right in your own household!’ “If you love your father or mother more than you love me, you are not worthy of being mine; or if you love your son or daughter more than me, you are not worthy of being mine.  If you refuse to take up your cross and follow me, you are not worthy of being mine.  If you cling to your life, you will lose it; but if you give up your life for me, you will find it.
Matthew 10:34-39 NLT

Jesus doesn't always bring peace to our home, but division. When one or two members of the family want to serve Christ and the others vehemently oppose them, there's a temptation to give in to those who oppose for the sake of peace. But Jesus says if you give in and stop serving Him to be at peace with parents, children, etc then you cannot be his disciple. You must die to the idea of living in a family of peace and unity. If it comes to choosing between living in peace and harmony within the family and living for Christ we must always choose to live for Christ no matter the cost.

Bad Shepherds

Do you know what bad shepherds do? They beat their sheep, they neglect the needs of their sheep, they don't even care when the sheep wander off. They are too concerned about themselves to care for their sheep. Now why do I care about shepherds and sheep? Because God compares spiritual leadership with shepherding sheep. In fact before his final ascension Jesus told Peter three times in various ways "Feed my sheep" in John 21. God's Looking for a Few Good Men

As I was reading through Job this morning I began to realize how deep this man's character was. His integrity and uprightness came from the core of his inner being - and he knew it. When his friends misdiagnosed his suffering as a result of his wickedness and secret sins he responded to their verbal accusations by saying: "I will never concede that you are right; I will defend my integrity until I die.
