Marriage Partner

Picking a Marriage Partner is no joke.  It is the single most influential decision a person could make that will direct the course of their life for the rest of their life.

This is why God forbade intermarriage with the women of the land they were to conquer - because these women would lead them to idolatry. 

And when you choose some of their daughters as wives for your sons and those daughters prostitute themselves to their gods, they will lead your sons to do the same.
Exodus 34:16

Do not intermarry with them. Do not give your daughters to their sons or take their daughters for your sons, 4 for they will turn your sons away from following me to serve other gods
Deut. 7:3-4

And this is exactly what happened.

They took their daughters in marriage and gave their own daughters to their sons, and served their gods.
Judg 3:6

Thus God has always been against His children marrying unbelievers.  That's why even in the N.T. God commands His children to only marry true believers.

Do not be yoked together with unbelievers. For what do righteousness and wickedness have in common? Or what fellowship can light have with darkness? 15 What harmony is there between Christ and Belial? What does a believer have in common with an unbeliever? 16 What agreement is there between the temple of God and idols? For we are the temple of the living God. As God has said: "I will live with them and walk among them, and I will be their God, and they will be my people." 
17 "Therefore come out from them and be separate, says the Lord.
2 Cor 6:14-17

A woman is bound to her husband as long as he lives. But if her husband dies, she is free to marry anyone she wishes, but he must belong to the Lord.

Bad Shepherds

Do you know what bad shepherds do? They beat their sheep, they neglect the needs of their sheep, they don't even care when the sheep wander off. They are too concerned about themselves to care for their sheep. Now why do I care about shepherds and sheep? Because God compares spiritual leadership with shepherding sheep. In fact before his final ascension Jesus told Peter three times in various ways "Feed my sheep" in John 21. As I was reading through Job this morning I began to realize how deep this man's character was. His integrity and uprightness came from the core of his inner being - and he knew it.
