Soul Keeper

Moses told the people of Israel:
“Only give heed to yourself and keep your soul diligently..." Deut. 4:9 NASB 

Each of us is responsible for guarding our own soul from things that contaminate it and move us away from God. We cannot expect parents, pastors, nor anyone else to do this for us. We are solely responsible for guarding our hearts, mind and soul. 

Many years later Solomon reminded us of the same thing:  
"Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it."
Proverbs 4:23 NIV

Do you know what bad shepherds do? They beat their sheep, they neglect the needs of their sheep, they don't even care when the sheep wander off. They are too concerned about themselves to care for their sheep. Now why do I care about shepherds and sheep? Because God compares spiritual leadership with shepherding sheep. As I was reading through Job this morning I began to realize how deep this man's character was. His integrity and uprightness came from the core of his inner being - and he knew it.
