When Life Gets Tough

Timothy and I were reading the Word together the other day and we read an interesting passage:

Your path led through the sea, your way through the mighty waters, though your footprints were not seen.
Psalms 77:19
Alongside this verse I had written a note that read "Sometimes God leads us through some rough times in life where we don't even see His footprints. But He is there." I have gone through many times where the "mighty waters" felt they would drown me. But even though God was leading me down paths I had not traveled before and through storms so frightening I could not see Him, His loving arm pulled me through and left me a better man than I was before. God is always more interested in building our character than in our comfort.

But you must precede that with love and care so that they will receive it from you with the right attitude.

Self Defense

When does a Christian have the right to self-defense? Clearly we understand through the New Testament that when the government persecutes the church we are to allow the government to kill us as Martyrs for Jesus Christ. But does that mean that a Christian cannot bear arms to defend his family, community, or Nation? Defending one's own people and towns goes as far back as the Book of Genesis. When Abraham's nephew Lot was taken buy some rogue nations he pursued them with "318 trained servants" (Gen. 14:14) and rescued him and his family. These weren't just farmers, Abraham had trained them in warfare for cases just like this. Surrendering to God

In 2017 what can be our most logical resolution? The Apostle Paul says it's offering our bodies as a living sacrifice. (Rome 12) E. Stanley Jones writes that a person "arrives at his highest level of rationality when he has sense enough to surrender himself to God. It is the sanest moment of a man's life when he does it. From that moment life begins to add up to sense."
